We are in the process of finalizing plans for our senior music tour involving grade 7 and 8 music students at Glanford (Band, Strings and Choir). The purpose of this tour is to offer performance opportunities for our students, to provide musical learning experiences, and of course to have some fun and social time together as a music program. To provide the best trip possible we have been working with Educational World Tour ( based out of Vancouver. The dates for the tour this year are Wednesday,

May 9th to Friday, May 11th, a total of 3 days and 2 nights.

Time on this trip will be split between Whistler and Vancouver. Both locations have some amazing places to see and visit.

On our way to Whistler, we will perform at a local elementary school, then we will be stopping in at the Squamish Cultural Centre to learn about and experience First Nations culture within this area. In Whistler, we will be staying at the Tantalus Resort Lodge, with amenities including an outdoor heated pool, hot tub and beach volleyball courts. After a pizza party in the hotel conference room, students will have time to play outside, or to visit Whistler Village.

While in Vancouver, our students will perform at a local elementary school. Our students will participate in one of 2 music clinics at the music department at the University of British Columbia. One of the big musical highlights will be attending a professional production of Mamma Mia, which brings the hit music of ABBA to the stage as a musical.

Other attractions we will be doing while in Vancouver include: Fly Over Canada (a 4D experience located at Canada Place), Extreme Air Park (Trampoline Park in Richmond), lunch and shopping in the world famous Granville Island Market, Dinner at the original Old Spaghetti Factory, and lunch and some shopping time at Tsawwassen Mills.

In order for bookings to proceed please return the consent form along with a $150.00 deposit by Friday, December 8th. Payment can be made in cash, cheque (cheques payable to Glanford Middle School) or can be made online (

A second payment of $150 will be due in mid-January. The third and final payment of the remainder will be due at the end of February.  Please note it is the policy of the tour company that all monies are non-refundable.

GMS recognizes that music tours are expensive. If your son or daughter requires financial support to cover some of the tour costs, a request can be made to the GMPA. Please bring your confidential requests forward to Mr. Lienard or Mr. Scigliano.

It is a tour requirement to have a tour jacket.  Students are welcome to use a jacket from a previous year. An order will be placed with the mid-January payment for new jackets. Jackets will cost approximately $40. If you intend to order a new jacket, please include this in the mid-January payment. There will be a limited number of jackets for rent at a cost of $7, please let Mr. Lienard know (this cost can also be included in mid-January payment).

We are very excited this year in terms of chaperones, as Mr. Duyndam, our vice-principal, and big supporter of our music program, will be joining us. In addition to Mr. Lienard, Ms. Rebstock, our strings and band teacher will be coming along, a great musical asset. Also there will be two GMPA executive members joining us. This leaves a limited number of chaperone spots available. Please note that interest does not guarantee a spot.

Finally students need to know that:

All participating students need to be in good standing within our school and community and will have demonstrated a sincere commitment to our music program.

We are anticipating a fantastic tour both musically and socially.  Please contact us if you have any questions, comments or concerns- 250-479-7179 or
